Manager Claims Gn’R Album Due in Spring
Label can’t confirm Gn’R manager’s projected spring release
By JAAN UHELSZKI
On Monday, Guns n’ Roses manager Doug Goldstein of Big FD Management told listeners on Los Angeles radio station KROQ that Gn’R’s long-awaited new album, Chinese Democracy, could be available as early as next June, to coincide with a summer tour. The announcement came just days after Guns were confirmed to play the House of Blues in Las Vegas on New Years, their first public performance in seven years.
Despite Goldstein’s claim, a source at Gn’R’s label, Interscope Records, would not confirm Goldstein’s projection, and said that a release day was “to be determined.” The album will be the band’s first release since the 1993 covers album, The Spaghetti Incident.
Reports earlier this year suggested that producer Bob Ezrin (Pink Floyd, Kiss, Alice Cooper) would be taking over the reins from Roy Thomas Baker for the album. But an industry source told RollingStone.com that Ezrin only had a single meeting with the band, and has not committed to anything.
Following Gn’R’s Vegas appearance, the band will head to South America in January for a performance at Rock in Rio.
