Touring 2021
The band has now announced dates for rescheduled shows to happen in 2021. See the overview in the right side panel.
Keep in mind that all of these shows, especially those still remaining for 2020, are highly uncertain due to the pandemic situation.

I will update the list later.
Is it now clear there won't be any shows before the Oceania tour, or might there still be a European tour in the summer?

The European and US tours don't seem likely to happen, except maybe for the Swedish festival (?)

Re: Touring 2021
Well, I'm actually a bit excited about GN'R touring again. I am not saying it will be any different from before, I just am more happy with the band out there touring than the band doing nothing. Will there be new songs? New riots? New biting of guards' thighs? New band members? New covers? New acoustic shows at smaller venues? New paparazzis' getting knocked down?

Not much there that suggest a forward-thinking tour. Only Axl, Slash and Duff is shown to the music of Nightrain. Still catering to the nostalgia crowd. Ideally I would have liked the entire band presented and something that indicated new music in the future.

Re: Touring 2021
Just a bit over a month to go now. I can't help getting a bit excited. At the very least I expect the band to dust off some songs they haven't played in a while; if there is a god they will play Hard School.

I hope so, too. I don't expect them to play it at the first shows of the leg, but somewhere along the leg.anchel wrote:Hoping for Hard School in this new leg!!

Re: Touring 2021
And with the likely cancellation/postponement of the Australian/New Zealand tour in November it means there are seven more shows in 2021.

Oh, Josh is never coming back
Seriously though, we can always hope for an Izzy cameo at some stage. Maybe in 2022.

Re: Touring 2021
A cameo would be nice but it would also be meaningless because 1) they would probably play old songs that they already have played with Izzy in the past and 2) izzy's guitar would probably be buried by the Axl employee's guitar (like it was by Dave Kushner's guitar when he joined VR)
The whole point of having Izzy & a good drummer and to get rid of the Axl employees is for them to become a great band again, meaning a band that can write and record great, exciting songs and that can play them live properly. The guitar interplay of Slash and Izzy is a key element of that magic just as much as Izzy's capacity to turn Axl and Slash's ideas into great songs and Izzy's ability to play music live in a pulsing, groovy, rocking way. You also need a good drummer for all of that.
And I didn't even mention Slash's and Axl's ability to add "muscle" and "drama" to Izzy's sometimes too-mellow and too-simple songs and turn them into epic masterpieces

I don't think the band will ever go back to the dynamics of how they wrote songs with Izzy back in the 80s, and if they did, I am not sure the results would necessarily be as good as back then. You can't recreate magic, it wasn't just the people, it was also the time and context of their lives. So maybe it don't happen, so you don't get so disappointed? Besides, in my opinion GN'R has demonstrated they can make great music without Izzy, so I am fine.

I am happy for you man. I somehow wish I was in your position. I wish I could enjoy their music.
I see your point about "you can't recreate magic" and I agree with almost all of it.
I agree specially that they will never make songs like the ones they did in the past and they will never play them and record them with the same passion, ferocity, intensity etc for all the reasons you mentioned.
It is impossible.
But there is so much room and time for good, great music to be created.
Here we have three guys who are INCREDIBLY TALENTED as songwriters and performers -- Axl, Izzy and Slash -- and these guys are able to bring the best in each other.
To this day I haven't listened to one bad song where the three of them collaborated.
Not one.
And the magic happens exactly when they collaborate to create music, because what happens is that, somehow, the sum of their efforts is (much, much) greater than its parts.
When they collaborate creatively, they reach what can be described as "full potential". They complement each other and their music reach heights that none of them is able to reach on their own...
And good music is life, man!
It is powerful, it moves people, it heals.
It makes the world better...
