Transcribing articles takes the least amount of work and time, compared to looking for articles or translating articles. Not to mention transcribing videos... I'm scared at the thought of having to transcribe long-ass recent podcasts with Alan Niven etc. That will take yearsSoulmonster wrote:Sure, I was just afraid of the amount of work of transcribing it all, but you are a beast and I assume we have plenty of years still left in usBlackstar wrote:Soulmonster wrote:

I would suggest that maybe we should take even articles about solo projects, especially the ones that contain interviews? They may contain interesting information about Slash's biography, for example. And maybe they could be used as sources and citations about what Slash did after GnR.

Yeah, all the podcasts that have been popping out in recent years We should hire someone to help out, or appeal to other GN'R geeks and make it a shared effort...

I'm the one who should thank you for making this site. It's quite massive. This is a way of paying back and showing that it's appreciated.
Here's 15 more articles I found, some I know you have, but I think the car audio thing and Adler interview from 1991 may come with some better scans. The docx-files I am not sure are dated correctly, but for the most part I think so. I think a lot of this is crap, but hopefully there are some interesting things too.

I can send some German language things too if you have someone who can translate it. Very interested in understanding more of a Crash article from 1987.

I take it that you got them now, @Blackstar, and will go through and add anything that is new.
Regarding German, I might be good enough at it to be able to translate using Google and get decent results. Or maybe @Uli wants to help?

I will look through old Crash magazines and get everything from them in the next few days. I will also take a big look at 2000-2004 as I gathered up a lot of stuff from that era for my old website back then.
If you want I can look at audio interviews and video too.

Another batch
Another batch from me. There's a lot of crap here, mostly 2004, but I threw in the Crash article I mentioned. I didn't find time yet to go through everything in Crash, but will do eventually.

Got it, thank you!
I was looking for the Stern VR interview and couldn't find it, as the Stern interviews have been wiped out from youtube. I'll look into the rest later
I'm also looking for the 1996 Slash and Duff interviews with Stern (Duff was with Steve Jones). Unfortunately I hadn't saved them before they were taken down.

I have good news and bad news. The good news is that I saved it and that one of the two I have complete. The bad news is that the Slash one was partly wrecked in a flash drive crash. I threw both in as it seemed as if I had recovered it, but I realize part 2 and 3 of Slash's interviews are messed up. I do have some other recovered files, including Slash playing Obsession and talking about that with Stern. That was released in 1996, so... I have to look into whether it was the same interview.
https://www.sendspace.com/file/j9hkrn
I just got full episodes of Stern 2012 and 2014, but seems I had the 2012 one from before. Besides that I got the Dover/Slash appearance in full quality (1995-02-01). I never figured out the airdate of the 1996 episode with Slash - sadly - but I will try to get the full episode somehow.
And yeah, it's highly important to save things that appear online. I learned the lesson too :-( My biggest loss was an hour long KNAC Duff interview that I sat up to tape in 2003 or 2004, but that I eventually lost. I have no idea where that went.

I have the date and a summary of the Slash 1996 interview with Stern thanks to this site:
https://web.archive.org/web/20181230170222/http://www.marksfriggin.com/news96_97/sep-96.htm
The date was September 30, and from the summary it seems it was the same interview where he played Obsession.
I have the 2012 Slash interview with Stern, but not the 2014 one. I also have one from 2007.

Re: The Lost Articles
That's the one. I have 34 minutes of the 1996 one in three clips, but there are parts missing. As far as I know the youtube clip were three parts of about 11-12 minutes each. I will put together what I have over the weekend.
With Stern I have this:
1989-02 - Axl (not exact date, I commented that it may be 1990)
1989-02-24 - Duff and Steven
1990-00-00 Unknown date, Bach and Axl
1991-00-00 Duff calls in
1991-05-00 Duff calls in (may be same as above)
1992-05-00 Probably Slash (may or july 1992 I noted, not exact date)
1995-02-01 - Eric Dover and Slash
2007-11-01 - Slash
2012-05-22 - Slash (that's the one I can double check)
I also have two recovered clips with Steven and Stern, but I need to research. Recovery messed up file names.

We have the 1989-90 ones in the archive (the first Axl one is February 6, 1989)

as well as the February 1, 1995 Slash and Dover one

We have also the Duff phone call from 1991, but it's incomplete and the date is probably wrong, if it's the same from May 1991 in your list:

Thanks for the help with the dates!
So I'll send you these, but it will take a few days. Heading some place where internet will be very limited.
* 1992 May or July
* Slash 1996 as complete as i can get it
* The new one I got that I didn't have
* Duff phone call as complete as I have it (I have 8 mins more than you)
I also need to try to figure out where the two Adler conversations with Stern are from. Sorry I don't have the Pirate radio one. I never even heard of it.
Found this at HTGTH:
July 25th, 1996 - Duff appears on the Howard Stern show. I may have the date wrong for that episode OR there were two appearances.
Two more:
March 10, 2009 Steven guests
July 27, 2010 Steven guests w/ Chipz Z'nuff

Yeah, and I gotta save whatever you get from that. Good work!
Make sure you "steal" my old transcripts if some can be of use. They were from GNR N.I.R., but he gave them to me.

From what I see, we have already "stolen" most of these but they should be properly credited.

It's behind a paywall so I couldn't check it thoroughly. Thought it might be one that has been published previously based on the little content I could see.

Re: The Lost Articles
You guys mentioned Howard Stern interviews. In the February 1, 1995, interview that Slash does with Stern, they talk about that time when Slash called in to Stern from Hawaii while wasted:
Slash: "Slash: You know what happened, didn’t I tell you the story? I know I told you the second time, right? Alright. I didn’t even know really anything about you. I didn’t know who you were. I just thought you were just some other deejay. I was in Hawaii escaping my wife-to-be – she found out that I was messing around. I split town. […] So I went and visited a friend I hadn’t seen since junior high. So me and him and his wife just tore up Hawaii, and I went, “I gotta be back at the hotel by 2:00 to talk to some guy.” That’s when I called you. I was wasted. I mean, cuz I could have pulled that off with anybody else, but you were, like, all over me, and I went, “Whoa.” And then, what’s-her-face called, Sam’s? […] And she’s like, “Slash, you are drunk.” And I was like, (speaks in “drunk” voice) “You’re fucking drunk.” " [Howard Stern, February 1, 1995].
Since he mentions that he is escaping his wife-to-be, it implies he was engaged at the time, or at least together with Renee. I don't know exactly when he got engaged to Renee, but some time before July 1992. This also coincides well with Slash's public infidelity with Savannah in April 1992. In an article published in December 1992, it would be claimed that Slash had been unfaithful to Renee after they got engaged and that she dumped him [Life Magazine, December 1992]. So he likely got engaged before April 1992, then fucked around with Savannah, Renee dumped him, and he went to Hawaii, likely in late April (after the Freddie Mercury tribute), or early May (before the next leg of the tour).
So do we have a Slash interview with Stern from April/May 1992?
Slash: "Slash: You know what happened, didn’t I tell you the story? I know I told you the second time, right? Alright. I didn’t even know really anything about you. I didn’t know who you were.
Slash and Stern mention two phone calls though in the 1995 interview: one when Slash called from Hawaii, drunk, and one when he called at a later time, sober.

Perfect! My reasoning held water.

Re: The Lost Articles
The one I have is the one from Hawaii. He had split from Renee at the time of that Stern interview. Bad news: Seems I don't have it complete. It's only 24 minutes and ends with Stern asking for commercials. So that likely means I have two of these incomplete. I am the master of incomplete things, it seems!

You have a point. See here for another round of additional things. You may already have some of the clippings, I didn't double check everything.

Re: The Lost Articles
Thank again so much, @Surge!
I didn't know the date of of the Slash pinball machine interview from 1994 and I figured it was sometime in October:

I see it's dated November 11 1994 in your file, so I'm going to update it (I'll replace the video later, too, because mine is missing the short Kurt Loder intro).

That's cool, I may have had a good reason to put that date as it's very specific. Also the Colt Heroes date is there.
