Duff McKagan's new solo album, "Beautiful Disease," has been delayed until March, due to the restructuring of his label, Geffen Records. The former Guns N' Roses bassist had been on the schedule for January 26, but that's been rescheduled to March 9. The international release, however, remains fixed for February 9.
The label is expected to undergo major changes in the very near future when mothership Universal reorganizes in the face of their purchase of Polygram. Geffen is expected to be folded into a group with several other labels, most notably Interscope, resulting in major financial, staff and structural revisions and rumored roster cuts. A number of Geffen projects are likely to be caught in the re-tooling.
"Beautiful Disease" is McKagan's second solo effort. He released 1993's "Believe in Me" while still a member of Guns N' Roses. The new album was produced by Noel Golden (Sammy Hagar) at McKagan's home studio in Los Angeles. Guests include former bandmates Slash and Izzy Stradlin, as well as Faith No More drummer Mike Bordin and Plexi guitarist Michael Barragan.
McKagan broke in much of the new material with a live show last weekend at the Galaxy Theater in Santa Ana, California. Other appearances are pending.
He may be late delivering his record, but next to his former bandmate Axl Rose, McKagan is cranking out records. Rose, the band's only original member, has been writing a new Guns album for Geffen for four years now. The band hasn't had a released a new record since 1994's cover project, "The Spaghetti Incident?" The bands last studio album was 1991's double release, "Use Your Illusion I" and "Use Your Illusion II."
Meanwhie Rose will be starting off his new year in court. The singer was charged with disorderly conduct last February after a run-in with security at the Phoenix airport. He'll be appearing before an Arizona judge January 8.
