Moby scores with electronica

The scene's biggest name had lost hope in his genre, but with new, young musicians in the mix he sees progress.

It’s the same way, [Moby] said, that he has been called on to make electronic remixes for other musicians. His portfolio includes remixes of Aerosmith’s Falling In Love (Is Hard on the Knees), Smashing Pumpkins’ 1979 and Metallica’s Until It Sleeps.

Last year, he was asked to produce Guns ’n’ Roses’ upcoming album.

“I went out and met with (Axl Rose) a few times, but I don’t think I’m going to work on that record, because it would mean working on it at the exclusion of my next record. I don’t want to spend a year in Los Angeles just working on Guns ’n’ Roses.”

His next album, Moby said, will likely veer back toward electronica. While the press has tempered its enthusiasm for the genre, Moby has rekindled his excitement.
