I am surprised by this. All these appearances from Duff sort of undermines the new lineup Axl's been working on and can't feel good for Tommy especially with the old rumours that Duff has wanted to replace him.

I have to assume everyone's fine with it and that it is either just a fun thing to do and doesn't affect the stability of the lineup at all, or that the band is trying out Duff in case Tommy decides to leave and focus on The Replacements.

All this said, always cool to see Duff onstage.

Axl explained why Duff replaced Tommy for the show, apparently it was something about Tommy having a day off, or something. Waiting for the quote.

No, he must have known it at least some hours before. His wife tweeted about it earlier in the day. Perhaps some personal stuff Tommy needed to take care of, Axl alluded to such things in the Revolver interview.
