Steven Adler Hospitalized After Stabbing Himself ... NOT a Suicide Attempt, Rep Says

Former Guns N' Roses drummer Steven Adler was rushed to the hospital after stabbing himself at his home ... TMZ has learned.
Law enforcement sources tell TMZ someone at Adler's L.A. home called 911 shortly after 6:30 PM Thursday night to report someone had stabbed themselves. We're told when cops and paramedics arrived, they discovered it was Adler who had suffered a stab wound to his stomach.
Our sources say Adler was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. We're told no one else is suspected to have been involved in the incident.
Adler has openly struggled with substance abuse for decades. He was kicked out of Guns N' Roses over his drug addiction in 1990 ... but was later inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame with the group in 2012.
Adler has appeared on several TV shows about addiction ... he was a member of seasons 2 and 5 of "Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew" and its spin-off 'Sober House.'
UPDATE
June 28, 10:15 AM PT -- Adler's rep tells TMZ ... the stabbing was not a suicide attempt, and simply an accident.
The rep would not specify what caused the accident, except to describe it as a "very minor, superficial wound." So much so, we're told Adler still plans to perform a July 12 gig in Las Vegas. The show must go on, as they say. As for Steven's past substance abuse -- his rep assured us he's been sober for several years.

People Magazine, June 28:

Guns N' Roses Drummer Steven Adler Hospitalized After Possible Suicide Attempt
The Los Angeles Police and Fire Departments both responded to the incident on Thursday and confirmed that a patient was transported to a local hospital
By Robyn Merrett and Joelle Goldstein
Guns N’ Roses‘ drummer Steven Adler has been hospitalized after a possible suicide attempt, PEOPLE confirms.
Officer Jeff Lee with the Los Angeles Police Department tells PEOPLE that local authorities responded to a call on Thursday shortly after 6:30 p.m. for a possible suicide attempt at a Studio City, California, home.
“Upon arrival, LAPD officers determined that there was no crime and the incident was being treated as a medical emergency only,” Lee tells PEOPLE. “The subject was transported to a local hospital with a non-life-threatening injury.”
A spokesperson at the Los Angeles Fire Department also confirms to PEOPLE that they were called to the address for a possible stabbing and transported one patient to the local hospital via ambulance.
A representative for Adler, 54, did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.
News that Adler had been rushed to the hospital was first reported by TMZ. According to the outlet, no one else was involved with the incident.
Born in Cleveland, Ohio, Adler joined Guns N’ Roses — founded by Axl Rose, Izzy Stradlin, and L.A. Guns members Tracii Guns, Ole Beich and Rob Gardner, in 1985.
The group went on to release their debut album Appetite for Destruction in 1987. The project has sold over 28 million copies worldwide.
Over the years, Adler has publicly struggled with substance abuse.
Trouble began for the star during December 1987 when the group was forced to replace Adler while on tour after he broke his hand following an alleged brawl, Rolling Stone reported.
Adler was absent from the group again in 1989 during the American Music Awards. At the time, it was said he was missing due to the flu, but it was later revealed that Adler was in a drug rehabilitation program.
Adler was later kicked out of the group in 1990 over his drug use, according to Rolling Stone. However, he was able to rejoin the band after signing a contract that he would refrain from drugs.
He was then fired again from the group that same year after his addiction grew out of hand.
Five years later, Adler was arrested at his Calabasas home on a felony charge of heroin possession, the Los Angeles Times reported at the time.
In 2008, Adler appeared on the second season of the reality TV show Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew.
Despite his many obstacles, Adler was recognized for his musical contributions when he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Guns N’ Roses in 2012.
Guns N’ Roses is currently in the middle of their Not in This Lifetime Tour.

He suffered non-life threatening injuries. According to TMZ, Adler, 54, stabbed himself in the stomach.
“Officers responded to Adler’s Studio City, California home at around 6:30 p.m. PT on a call of a possible suicide attempt,” Officer Mike Lopez told us. “When they arrived, officers determined that no crime had been committed and deemed the incident a medical emergency only.”

Another article about the incident, with comments from Steven's brother Jamie, unnamed family members, his (unnamed) rep, an unnamed neighbours; Daily Mail, July 3, 2019:

EXCLUSIVE: Guns N' Roses drummer Steven Adler was seen acting 'weird and intoxicated' as he 'wandered around and tried to talk to neighbors' - hours before he stabbed himself in the stomach
By Ryan Parry West Coast Editor For Dailymail.com And Alex Diaz For Dailymail.com
Former Guns N'Roses drummer Steven Adler was seen acting 'weird and intoxicated' near his home just hours before he stabbed himself in the stomach, DailyMail.com can reveal.
A worried female neighbor spotted Adler wandering on the street a day before the incident and texted a friend to warn her about him.
Police and paramedics were called to the Los Angeles home the 54-year-old rocker, shares with his wife Carolina on Thursday evening last week.
Adler - who has struggled with addictions to alcohol and hard drugs and survived two suicide attempts in the past - was rushed to a local hospital and found to have non-life threatening injuries.
Police established that there was no one else involved.
His family told DailyMail.com that Adler is 'totally fine' while his rep claimed it was an accident that caused only a 'very minor, superficial wound'. The rep added that Adler has been sober for several years.
But concerned residents say they have recently witnessed the former rock star acting unusually, with one claiming he was seen 'intoxicated' on Wednesday last week. His behavior was so worrying that local people texted a warning about a 'weird' blond guy with tattoos, a source said.
One neighbor even snapped a photo of Adler, seen by DailyMail.com, showing him wearing a baseball cap, Duff beer T-shirt and black sweatpants. The source explained: 'A neighbor saw him while driving on the street but didn't realize it was the Guns N' Roses guy. The neighbor just saw a weird blond guy with tattoos and he seemed intoxicated. He tried to interact but the neighbor was put off by his weird demeanor and drove off.'
Another neighbor, who asked not to be named, said: 'It's pretty sad. I met Steven at a party in December and he was in the twilight zone. 'We were in a group having a conversation and I could see he is not what you would call ''with the program". Later I asked someone if he was really high or there was something wrong with him. I don't know if he is always like that. He just didn't seem like he was really present. It may be that he just took too many drugs back in the day. I asked my friend if he was on drugs or that's just the way he is and she said that's just the way he is because of his past. His wife Carolina was the opposite, she seemed very together, a really nice person.'
Adler was fired from the Guns N' Roses in 1990 due to his problems with drugs, sending him on a downward spiral. He was kicked out after trying to play the song Civil War 20 or 30 times but was unable to perform because of his addictions.
Adler later suffered a stroke due to a 'hellacious speedball' - a mix of heroin and cocaine - which left half of his face paralyzed and affecting his speech, according to a 2005 interview with Classic Rock magazine. In another interview in 2011 he admitted he had tried to kill himself twice with 100 Valium, an entire bottle of Jagermeister and three quarters of a gram of heroin.
Adler finally seemed to get his act together after featuring on two seasons of reality show Celebrity Rehab with Dr Drew in a bid to get clean from his addictions to heroin, crack, pills, weed and drink.
Following the incident last Thursday, his half-brother Jamie, 43, insisted the drummer was 'fine'. He told DailyMail.com: 'I'm not even trying to talk to anybody about my man but everything's all good. It's been hyped up - he's doing fine. The guy is totally fine.'
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee's mother Deanna - who wrote a book titled 'Sweet Child of Mine: How I Lost My Son to Guns N'Roses' - declined to comment.
Adler's rep said: 'As far as I've been told, Steven has been sober and meeting all his contractual agreements for live performances. He has shown up sober and done his job professionally and with a big smile on his face. I have no knowledge of any non-sober behavior or activity. He performed just a week ago at the Hard Rock hotel and casino in Biloxi, Mississippi, and did a big show there that was well-attended. Steven accidentally cut himself, he did not stab himself or intentionally intend on harming himself. The wound was minor and superficial and his next show on July 12 in Las Vegas will take place. I don't believe he has left hospital yet but I don't know for sure. My understating is that he is doing well.'
