It's official: Guns N' Roses show at Busch Stadium postponed

The Guns 'N Roses concert at Busch Stadium on Saturday has been postponed, the St. Louis Cardinals confirm in an email to ticketholders.

KMOX also confirms the following note was sent to stadium staff today:



Jimmy Griffin with the local band El Monstero tells KMOX how he found out.

"The strange part for me was I got to the place where all my gear is and there was a rather burly, construction-y type gentleman that said, 'yeah, man, they need your help down at Guns 'N Roses,' and I was like, 'what are you talking about?' He goes, 'yeah, they're taking the stage down. They're not going to do the show.'

"I was like, 'really?' and he goes, 'yeah I got a buddy that's an electrician and they pulled all of the electricians and they're bringing all the metal guys back to take down scaffolding,'" Griffin describes.

That's what we can see now in the Busch Stadium outfield. The stage that was fully erected earlier today is now flat against the ground.

"I just heard! I'm really disappointed," James Walbourne of The Pretenders told KMOX's Dave Glover Show in-studio on Friday afternoon.

Guns N’ Roses Postpones Upcoming Concert Over Illness in the Band

Guns N' Roses announced the postponement of their St. Louis concert at Busch Stadium with The Pretenders due to illness.

In a statement, the official social media pages for the band shared, "Gunners, the concert scheduled for St. Louis on September 9 has been postponed due to illness. Hang on to your tickets – fans who are unable to make the rescheduled date will be eligible for a refund. Thank you for the support ."

No other details have been revealed yet, including the severity of the illness. However, frontman Axl Rose recently had troubles with his voice during their show at the Saratoga Springs Performing Arts Center. Hours after their set, Rose tweeted, "My apologies I was a little horse .. Fun night, Great Crowd!! Great Venue!! N’ great to be back!! Again my apologies and thank you!!."

Under the Instagram post sharing the postponement news, fans shared their support and wishes for Rose to have a speedy recovery.

"Axl please rest well. We need you well and Powerful. My best wishes for all GNR Family," read one comment.

Another fan wrote, "sending all my love to axl and hoping he’ll be recovering quickly. health comes first."

Someone else added, "axl needs to stop for a while, his health is first! please get well soon🥺," with another emphasizing, "You need to rest!!! Forget about us, if you disappear, we are lost in this fucking world!! Please rest."

Guns 'N Roses are currently in the midst of their massive world tour. The timing of the postponed date works well for the group, as they have a few days off until their next performance, which is scheduled for Sept. 12 at Knoxville, Tennessee's Thompson-Boling Arena.

Last week, Guns N' Roses postponed their show that was scheduled to take place in St. Louis, Mo. on Sept. 9, citing "illness" as the reason. Though the band assured the show would be rescheduled, people have been speculating that a different reason caused the cancelation — but Slash's girlfriend has shut those theories down.

"Gunners, the concert scheduled for St. Louis on September 9 has been postponed due to illness," the statement the band posted on social media read. "Hang on to your tickets – fans who are unable to make the rescheduled date will be eligible for a refund. Thank you for the support."

While the statement didn't specify which member of the band was sick, frontman Axl Rose had tweeted that he'd been struggling with his voice a few days prior. However, following the cancelation, some fans have shared different theories online as to why they think the show was really canceled.

"Why Axl canceled the St. Louis show," someone wrote as the title of a since-deleted post on Reddit. "An insider with the band told me that Axl was pissed that the show only sold 25,000 tickets out of 40,000 available," the text of the post read.

According to a few other Reddit posts, rumors that the show was being postponed began circulating before ticket holders were made aware of the news, and before the band made any official announcements.

"St. Louis is really bad about keeping secrets. We knew for 4 hours the concert was cancelled and nobody has made an official announcement from Guns N' Roses," another individual wrote on X. "People were getting on planes, trains and automobiles in that time to head to the show for the weekend."

After they made the announcement, a fan on another Reddit thread noted that Rose told the crowd during the band's Sept. 6 performance in Lexington, Ky. that he wasn't feeling well.

Slash's girlfriend Meegan Hodges took to her Instagram story earlier this week to address some of the theories, writing, "The truth is someone is sick and unable to perform. There's no conspiracy... The show will be rescheduled in November. It's a total bummer for everyone. These guys put on a 3 plus hour show. They are like superheroes. Give 'em a break they can't help when someone is too sick to perform. Wish them well."

Guns played their Sept. 12 show in Knoxville, Tenn. as planned. Their next performance is scheduled for tomorrow night (Sept. 15) in Hollywood, Florida.

Guns N’ Roses announces additional fall shows, but where’s the new St. Louis date?

Guns N’ Roses has announced new concert dates for fall, but St. Louis’ postponed Busch Stadium concert remains unresolved.

The classic rock band shocked fans when it pulled the plug on a Sept. 9 show at Busch Stadium the day before the gig due to illness.

Four dates have been announced for the band's current tour: Oct. 19 in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada; Oct. 22 in Nampa, Idaho; Oct. 24 in Salt Lake City, Utah; and Oct. 27 in Denver, Colorado. Tickets for the new shows go on sale Sept. 20.

A representative for the band confirms there is no new St. Louis date yet. Ticketmaster lists the date as "to be announced."

Since the St. Louis postponement, Guns N’ Roses performed in Knoxville, Tennessee, three days later.

St. Louis fans were told to keep their tickets and that refunds will be available for those who can’t make the new date.

The band includes St. Louisan Richard Fortus on guitar. Fortus was likely left the most disappointed. He had special plans for his bandmates in St. Louis.

Guns N’ Roses officially cancels St. Louis show

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV) - Guns N’ Roses has canceled their St. Louis concert.

The band was scheduled to take the stage at Busch Stadium earlier this month. At the time, the band said they would be rescheduling the show and asked ticketholders to hold onto their tickets until a makeup date was released. Now, the band has announced the concert has been canceled.

“Event organizers have been working diligently to reschedule the show to take place on the current tour but unfortunately they were unable to find a new date that worked,” read an email announcing the cancellation.

Tickets purchased through the St. Louis Cardinals or cardinals.com will be automatically refunded to the original payment method within 10 days. Anyone who purchased tickets through an alternate site or ticket provider should contact their point of purchase.

In a statement, Axl Rose said, “I am, as is the band, really bummed we’re forced to cancel our show in St. Louis. The history, the memories, the return to share that bond with our fans. It sucks!!”

Tickets still remain for the Sept. 23 Guns N’ Roses concert at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City.

When the concert was originally postponed, an email sent by the Cardinals organization stated “illness” was the reason for the postponement.

Many fans found out about the original postponement after they had already made the trip to St. Louis. Carla King and her partner had booked VIP tickets, along with a hotel, and had driven more than 10 hours from Michigan to see the show.

“We’re just going to hang out, check out some things here, go visit the Arch,” King said.

She said she wasn’t upset at the musicians and planned to try and make the trip again in a few weeks if the concert gets rescheduled.

“That band, they’re human. They’re just as fragile as we are,” she said.

Some businesses Downtown were disappointed not to have the concert crowd in town for the weekend, especially with the St. Louis Cardinals out of playoff contention. Steve Webb, a manager at The Broadway Oyster Bar, said business in August and September had been down from most years as a result. A concert canceling was another blow for him and his staff.

“When you have people waiting, restaurant full, that’s always a good thing,” he said.

Webb also pointed out jokingly that the band’s frontman Axl Rose has had a somewhat contentious relationship with St. Louis. In 1991 a riot broke out at the band’s concert at Riverport Amphitheater when Rose jumped into the audience to seize a camera from a fan. The fan accused Rose of punching him.

“Maybe Axl’s feeling the effects of 30 years ago. Maybe he’ll get over it one day,” Webb joked.

The Gateway Grizzlies minor league baseball team is offering free tickets to Saturday’s home playoff game for fans who are missing out on the concert. The team on Facebook invited those who had concert tickets to “rock with the Grizzlies instead” for a chance to still get out of the house on Saturday night.

Fans hoping to see Guns N' Roses rock out at Busch Stadium in St. Louis won't get their chance.

The legendary hard rockers have officially canceled their St. Louis show that was originally slated to take place earlier this month but was postponed due to illness within the band.

Reports indicate purchased tickets via the St. Louis Cardinals will be refunded over the next 10 days.

Guns N' Roses is forever connected to what's been dubbed the Riverport Riot in 1991. The group's lead singer Axl Rose had an altercation over a fan taking pictures and after taking matters into his own hands he called off the show. The end result was a riot that lasted for hours. Rose was charged by the St. Louis County prosecutor, but a judge determined he didn't start the riot.
