Slash used to listen to ‘a ton of Ravi Shankar while growing up’

Former Guns ‘N’ Roses guitarist Slash is in India and he’s loving it. The rockstar is a big fan of Ravi Shankar and says he wants to try authentic Indian food.

He came to India 20 years ago, when he played in Bengaluru with the rock group Indus Creed. A lot has changed since then for Slash, aka Saul Hudson, former member of the popular rock band, Guns ‘N’ Roses. Slash is currently on a two-city tour with singer Myles Kennedy and their band The Conspirators. “It used to be called Bangalore then, and not Bengaluru! But, I’m really excited to be coming back to India! Fortunately, we’re going to be in two different locations, both of which are well known to me,” he says.

The 50-year-old guitarist adds, “There are so many things that I’d want to do, so it’s really a matter of seeing how much we can do in the short time we have.” Slash reveals he loves listening to Indian musicians and has a desire to collaborate. “I heard a ton of Ravi Shankar while growing up, and then there are some other artists I’ve heard over the years,” he says. “We were talking about collaborating with Indian musicians on this trip, but it was complicated. Having said that, it would be an interesting thing to do,” he adds.

A self confessed fan of Indian food, Slash adds that he finally will be able to taste the traditional Indian food. “If my memory serves me right, the Indian food in India is extremely different than the westernized version in the US so I’m interested to experience what traditional Indian food is like,” he says.
