Re: 2021.10.22 - Rock Antenne - Interview with Slash
Interesting interview!
Some quotes that call my attention
- It was the first song that we recorded on the record and it was also something that we wrote right before pre-production. So it was just a quick jam that I made out for us to jam in the studio, just to get the (...) out so to speak, and it just turned out to be a good song. We actually on every record there is one song that we went and made on the spot when we start pre-production. They are always bangers and they are a lot of fun.
- And then there was a whole bunch of new material that I wrote that's gonna go on to the next record
What calls my attention the most:
- Slash apparently has never had and still does not have any trouble to come up with new music ideas, riffs, etc. He seems to write a lot and is always coming up with new stuff.
- Slash and his band don't have any problems in turning Slash music ideas into full songs. They apparently do it very easily and very quickly, including doing it "on the spot".
- It is not said on this interview but it seems to me that 1) Miles seems to have a very important role in turning Slash ideas into songs and 2) it seems to me that Slash gives "free reins" for Miles in the writing -- be it for chord progressions and specially lyrics etc -- as long as the song is built around Slash's idea and that Slash's idea is kept in the song.
Which brings me to the reason we are all here...
Why it is that this -- creating songs -- does not happen with Axl?
The answer to me seems to be... Axl.
Why isn't Axl using these Slash's ideas to create new songs?
Because he is not interested?
Because he can't write anymore?
Because he takes himself so seriously that he can't possibly conceive to write fun, easy, fast songs anymore?
