Velvet Revolver: New Album To Be More 'Stripped Down'

Velvet Revolver is getting ready to head into the studio to ramp up work on their second album, tentatively entitled "Libertad". "Hopefully, we will have a lot of the tracks done before Christmas and then come back in January and finish up," drummer Matt Sorum said, according to AOL Music.

The band members had been dabbling in a lot of different directions on the songwriting, but Sorum told AOL that with the help of producer Brendan O'Brien (Audioslave, Pearl Jam, Rage Against The Machine), the record will have a more consistent sound. "We had a lot of songs that kind of went away, and now we've really homed in on, like, 20 great songs," he said. "Now it's more a cohesive rock 'n' roll album. It's probably going to be more stripped down than the last album."

While Sorum said Velvet Revolver is still deciding which tunes to record, to be winnowed down to a final 12 for the album, there are a couple of songs he's already looking forward to working on. "We've got a song called 'Queen for a Day' that's awesome," he said. "We have a great ballad called 'The Last Fight'," which he describes as having a "Beatles-esque vibe."
