Axl Rose Signs To Sanctuary Publishing
By Lars Brandle
British-based independent Sanctuary Music Group has signed Axl Rose to a publishing deal. Until recently, Warner Chappell published the Guns N' Roses frontman's works.
Sanctuary Music Publishing chairman Deke Arlon was instrumental in securing the new pact, which covers the artist's future material and catalog. Rose's contribution to such hits as "Sweet Child O' Mine," "Paradise City" and "November Rain" are covered under the deal, as are dozens of new tracks Rose has recently recorded for Universal Music.
Speaking from Midem in Cannes today, Arlon says the deal is one of the company's most significant to date.
"It's just the most fantastic acquisition," Arlon tells Billboard.biz. "We've been cautious in the development stages over the last few years, but hopefully this tells the world where we are at. We're not out there to make 'market share,' we're out there to be publishers."
Arlon has led Sanctuary's publishing activities since joining the division in January 2001. SMP last year struck a substantial publishing agreement with UB40, the British reggae act which this year celebrates its 25th anniversary. SMP also adminsters the catalog of Nashville hitmakers Ten Ten Music for the United Kingdom, France, Germany and Ireland. Its stable of songwriters include Bert Jansch, Chris Braide, Kate Aumonier and T. D. Lind.
