Susanna Hoffs’ and Vicky Peterson’s combined psych-o-delicious birthday bash, coordinated by the ever-dexterous Pam Turbov at Casa Bangles (right next door to Miles Copeland’s Bavarian house of horrors) was almost as good as the parties in Beyond the Valley of the Dolls, a video copy of which Ms. Peterson received, along with that perfect gift for ’60s addicts, a lava lamp. As for Sue, her fave-rave present was a tape of some obscure ’60s psychedelic Brazilian group from White Flag’s Bill Bartell. Besides the gift-exchange ritual, the festivities included video monitors showing (courtesy of Joseph Brooks) most of the films that were canceled at the Wiltem, while the guest list included celebrity spud Emilio Estevez (who used to do Sue; now they’re “just good friends”) and Timothy Leary (a former Harvard-mate of Sue’s shrink dad). Nikki Sixx put in an appearance, discounting all those nasty “brain-dead” rumors that have been circulating ever since he broke up with Vanity. (If anything, that makes him brain alive in our book.) As a matter of fact, Mr. Sixx wanted to play pick-up-tricks with Susanna, and was asking for her phone number — now that would make an interesting couple! Speaking of couples, Anthony Chili Pepper was making a prominent young-love display by smooching with lone Skye (introducing the nubile nymphet as his “wife to be”) in every conceivable nook and cranny, including underneath the Angela Davis poster in the black-lite room, where Vicky Peterson was wearing her favorite present — a Da-Glo devil mask that Anthony had given her. On the subject of red-hot devils, Redd Kross had their new 19-year-old blond-stud drummer, Victor In-drizzo, in tow — look for him to be the new throb on the scene. Not quite throbbing, but nevertheless vibrant, was Vicky’s latest collaborator, Vin-nie Vincent. Also seen and overheard: the duo who live in the House of Freaks (“Boy, now I know we’re not in Virginia”) and a glam contingent including Taime Downe, Duff of Guns ’n’ Roses (sorry, girls, he’s engaged to marry Mandy Lame Flame this summer) and D’Molls. (They were easy to spot because two of them were wearing white-leather fringe jackets with the band’s name on the back, while another was wearing a customized D’Molls football jersey. And as we left, we spotted a bright yellow Corvette with guess what on its license plate. Makes you wonder if their moms sew D’Molls labels on their underpants.) But the couple that intrigued us the most had to be Susan Cowsill and Dwight Twilley, who were seen discussing the rain, the park and other things.
