July-October 2019 leaks

So allegedly someone got 15 CDs of 2000 mixes of GN'R songs out of a locker that had belonged to Tom Zutaut. Most of it is likely to be instrumentals, but there is also supposed to be some songs with lyrics. Together with this story some new leaks have emerged. A longer clip of Checkmate/Jackie Chan which includes what I suppose is the chorus, back then named Hard School. And a clip of Atlas. There is also a 2017 rehearsal of Sweet Child O' Mine floating about, but how that is connected to the alleged locker cache, is not understood by me.

I don't think the 2017 rehearsal is related to the CD era leak. It seems like a coincidence and it's been brought up just as something that is out there too.
And from I read on myngnr, it's been around for some time, but most people didn't take notice of it.

I do remember them well, those times when a new leak was a sensation (first one I ever got to hear was "IRS" in 2005, then there were more 2006-7)!

Someone got into big trouble with the FBI back then, from what I heard. Now I wonder: will Tom Zutaut or whoever got/bought his old stuff, get into trouble for this?

In any way, I'm looking forward to a "CD re-release" with 15 discs of demo versions and stuff. Very Happy

We also don't know to what extent the band/label/management has tried to prevent him from leaking any material. This is all rumors that tend to be exaggerated and then taken as gospel around these parts of the internet.
Then, if they really did try to prevent leaks, and they succeeded, then it is not unlikely this is due to the band expecting to release some of this material in the future. A new record with the current lineup is likely, in my opinion, to at least partly be based off songs from the CD sessions. If that happens, then I hope Axl will see fit to release also the old versions of these songs in a future box-set, with a few versions per song so people could see how they have evolved (Freese, Brain, pre-Bucket, Bucket, Slash, etc).

Anyway, calm down. The guy might still leak in the shadows, or someone else might. Or nothing happens now and at the very least we got to hear a little bit more of what we likely have in store for the future.

I think with Slash's guitar it would be a total GN'R classic, but it's pretty good as it is, too.

In my opinion it is one of the best songs I have heard from the CD era. Maybe top 3? Makes one wonder what else what saved for the follow-up.

Massive leak tonight. Seems like '99 versions of songs we have from before. No new songs. No Atlas. At least yet.

Where are all the new songs that we heard about from the locker CD?

It seems that the leaks are from different sources, with the majority of them likely being from the storage locker CDs (based on the duration and the metadata of the tracks).

Ive really fallen in love with ‘Hard School.’ I’ve lost count of the amount of times I’ve listened to it since it leaked, this song is so good. It really has that GnR sound to it, if it had Slash I feel it would be a classic - but I am getting a lot of enjoyment from it as it is.

Hopefully we get to hear some more new tracks soon.

So Perhaps and State of Grace leaked today.

We now have full versions of Hardschool, Atlas Shrugged (although something may be missing from this version), Perhaps and State of Grace. Four entirely new songs. Quite amazing.

And personally I think all of them are so good they could have replaced some songs on CD and made a better album. Fucking amazing.

I really love these new songs - I have put them all together with OMG and even Silkworms so I have a sort of new mini album Smile

I think Perhaps is my favourite (at the moment) I wonder if it is Axl on the piano or Dizzy?

Ranking the leaks:

1. State of Grace
2. Hardschool
3. Eye on You
4. Atlas Shrugged
5. Perhaps
6. As it Began
7. Silkworks

As It Began is beautiful, but needs vocals and less whales. Atlas still feels tampered with and that the complete version would possibly come higher on the list.

The acoustic Knockin' is nice, but I get distracted by the frenetic drumming and it feels more like an impromptu jam than a demo. Silkworms is interesting but not something I would listen to.

State of Grace tops the list, I am awed by that song and Axl's performance in the second half.

The leaks today was one complete CD. The one titled "Knockin'/Jungle". So now we have received two complete discs. Wonder if the leakers cant bother with single tracks anymore and that is the reason we are getting entire discs now...

Do you mean demo #1?

No. There's been some speculation that it could be "Motormouth" based on an old Fortus interview (?) but it was one of the titles Axl had confirmed as fake in 2008.
