WHO IS? DIZZY REED...
 
Q: HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN PLAYING PROFESSIONALLY?
 
A: Well, since the day I joined this band, I think. It depends on what professional means. If it means making money, well yeah, since I joined this band. But, I’ve been playing in a band since, I don’t know, since I was 10 years old.
 
Q: WHAT WAS THE FIRST INSTRUMENT THAT YOU PLAYED?
 
A: Believe it or not, I was a singer. And the keyboards were just kind of a side thing. After 10 years, I finally realized that I couldn’t sing that well but I could play the piano pretty well. So, I made up my mind to switch to piano.
 
Q: DID YOU EVER HAVE ANY FORMAL LESSONS?
 
A: I never took lessons, I just listened to a lot of records. I learned from listening to my favorite music.
 
Q: HOW DID YOU GET INTO PLAYING OTHER TYPES OF KEYBOARDS?
 
A: I started on an electric piano, a Fender Rhoads. Eventually I had to incorporate it into what I was doing. I’ve got to keep up with the times and I pick up little things here and there on the way.
 
Q: WHAT OTHER GROUPS HAVE YOU PLAYED WITH?
 
A: Before GN’R I was in a band called THE WILD; we used to play in Hollywood. When I lived in Colorado, I played in a bunch of different bands. I was once in a band called BOOTLEG and when I was in the sixth grade, I was in a band called THE HAIRY BANANAS.
 
Q: WHERE WERE YOU BORN AND WHERE DID YOU GROW UP?
 
A: I was born in Innsdale, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago. When I was eight, I moved to Boulder, Colorado and that’s where I grew up. I lived there until I was 20 and then I moved out to L.A. became a bum! I was a struggling musician for a long time; just trying to make a living.
 
Q: DO YOU PLAY ANY OTHER INSTRUMENTS?
 
A: I dabble in a little guitar. Mainly it’s keyboards and other percussion instruments. At first, being a percussionist is hard work. During the course of a night, my hands would get really thrashed. But, once I built up these calluses it became more fun. It’s a great way for me to take out frustrations and anger and still have a good time.
 
Q: WHO ARE YOUR MAJOR INFLUENCES?
 
A: I like this guy named Billy Powell who plays for LYNARD SKYNARD. I also like John Lord from DEEP PURPLE; and I’ve always liked Greg Hawks from THE CARS too, he’s cool. Of course, Elton John, Billy Joel, those cats, they’re a big influence.
 
Q: DO YOU ALSO WRITE MUSIC?
 
A: I’m always coming up with ideas and stuff. Ever since I can remember, I’ve been composing little bits and pieces. I think if you’re a musician you can’t help it. If something comes into my head I want to figure it out, keep it and store it. You never know when it can be used.
 
Q: WE HEAR THAT YOU KNEW THE GUYS FROM THE OLD CLUB DAYS. WHAT WAS IT LIKE?
 
A: Oh yeah! We used to always jam. My band had a studio next door to theirs. There were lots of late night jam sessions goin’ on. I’ve known the guys for about six years. I met everyone before they got signed. They were the biggest band in Hollywood. We all seemed to get along really well and joining the band was something that was always discussed. But, I never thought it would really happen and then one day I got this phone call... I said “cool.”
 
Q: HOW DO YOU THINK THAT THINGS ARE DIFFERENT TODAY?
 
A: We’re older and I think we’ve grown up a lot. I relate to the band in the same way. That hasn’t changed. But as GN’R grew, the music grew too. It’s definitely more complex. With the diverse musical talent in GUNS N’ ROSES I think the possibilities are endless and that those talents will dictate the directions that the band will go in. One thing I know for sure, it will be very exciting.

GN’R will be in the U.S.A. up ‘til Thanksgiving and then they’re off to South America until Christmas.

In February and March they hope to tour the U.S. and then to visit Europe again before June 1993.
 
Cities and venues have not yet been confirmed. We hope to have more information in the Christmas Edition of the newsletter.

Q: DID AXL REALLY MARRY STEPHANIE DURING THE NOVEMBER RAIN VIDEO?
 
A: No! Axle did not marry Stephanie. They are currently seeing one another but, that’s as far as it goes.
 
Q: HOW DID SHE DIE IN THE VIDEO?
 
A: Patience, patience patience. You’ll find out what happened in one of the up-coming videos!
 
Q: WE’VE HAD MANY QUESTIONS ABOUT THE SHORT STORY ON WHICH THE VIDEO WAS BASED. IS IT PUBLISHED? WHERE CAN WE GET COPIES?
 
A: “NOVEMBER RAIN” was based on the short story “WITHOUT YOU”, and was written by the band’s longtime friend Del James who is currently a senior editor at “RIP” magazine. The story will be part of a soon to be published collection of stories by Del. We’ll keep you posted.
 
Q: IS SLASH GETTING MARRIED?
 
A: Slash got married on October 14, 1992 to his longtime girlfriend Renee. The wedding was in Los Angeles and they spent their honeymoon in Kenya, Africa.
 
Q: WHEN WILL DUFF’S ALBUM BE OUT?
 
A: We hope it will be out in the spring or early summer. Duff can only work on this great project when GN’R takes time off from touring. You can expect it to be v-e-r-y cool. Special guests on the project include guitar legend Jeff Beck, Lenny Kravitz, Sebastian Bach, other members of SKID ROW as well as Slash, Gilby, Teddy and Matt.
