Guns N' Roses guitarist Slash backs Lewis Hamilton to bring home the win at Abu Dhabi GP

Guns N' Roses guitarist Slash is set to make an appearance today at the Yas Marina Circuit.

Speaking exclusively to The National, the 53-year-old rock legend, said he was an avid follower of Formula One season and a big fan of this year’s world champion, the Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton.

“I follow F1 for sure and I am a big Lewis Hamilton fan who has taken the championship this year. So it’s pretty cool to be able to play here when the final F1 race is happening of the season,” he said.

As for tomorrow’s race, Slash said he won’t be making an appearance as he would be preparing for what promises to be an epic race day concert with Guns N’ Roses at du Arena.

"It is before showtime and it is just too much craziness to deal with and then focus on the gig. So I am going to have to miss the actual race."

Tomorrow night marks the Slash’s third appearance in the UAE with as many bands.

In 2008 he performed with his former band Velvet Revolver at Dubai’s Desert Rock Festival and in 2013, he came with his rock group Myles Kennedy & The Conspirators for a show at the Dubai Tennis Stadium.
It is safe to say that he is a fan of the UAE and its rock crowds.

“It has been great,” he said.

“The first time I been here was with Velvet Revolver and I had absolutely no idea what to expect and I didn’t know what kind of fans we had or whatever, but it was amazing and it has always been like that ever since.

"It was great straight rock and roll crowd.”
