New navbar/toolbar Empty New navbar/toolbar

Post by Soulmonster Sun Apr 10, 2016 6:31 pm

I have reintroduced the toolbar (fixed bar on top of the page) and moved the icons from the previous navbar (the menu underneath our banner) up and into the toolbar. Well, I haven't moved all icons but reinstated "home" (the icon of a monitor which takes you to the first page of the forum when clicked), "new content" (the icon of a marker which takes you to any new posts since your last visit) and "all read" (the icon of the check which marks all posts as read when clicked). Other icons, like inbox, profile, etc, can now be found when clicking on the "Welcome NN" text. Additionally, I have added a neat hover effect on the icons. Because I can.

There are still some things that needs to be done, like removing the : to the left of the icons, removing the forumotion text and logo to the far left, and, ideally, styling the search box somewhat.

Lastly, I hope to move the drop-down menus from the right side into the toolbar. This will make it easy for us to navigate to shows, band members and songs from anywhere.

New navbar/toolbar Empty Re: New navbar/toolbar

Post by Soulmonster Fri Apr 15, 2016 7:27 pm

Almost beyond what I thought I would be able to do, I have managed to move the database drop-down menus into the new toolbar. I would still like to split it up into four separate menus, let's see if I can make that work.

I also plan to fix the "home" button (the monitor), so it is a bit more obvious what it does.

Any other features you would like in the toolbar?

With the new drop-down menus I decided to change teh way the posts in the Members, Shows and Songs sections are sorted. Previously they have been sorted chronologically, which would make it possible, say, to find a specific gig by browsing through the threads chronologically. The drawback of this is that when you open one of these sections, you won't see threads with new posts at top. I have now started sorting the sections by new content. I expect people to navigate these sections using the drop-down menus.

Well now it says "home", but it does not work when I click on it.

You have to correct the name of "Shows section" -  1995-1993 Smile

One known bug with the forum: embedding instagram images doesn't work. You get the caption but not the image. This is a flaw with the forumtion software and I doubt I can find a fix for it.

Absolutely nothing at all!

But it's no big problem, as I just click on the "Appetite for Discussion" link a bit further down to get "home". Cool

I don't get it. It is a simple button with this link https://www.a-4-d.com/ Does the new drop-down menu for songs, members and shows work?

Everything works except for the link in "home". Never mind, it's really a minor problem! (Might try a different browser soon...)

Okay, let me know if you figure it out. And everyone else: please let me know of any bugs. I am in a productive phase now and might fix it Smile

I have also started to rework how the song threads are looking. See example here: https://www.a-4-d.com/t164-ain-t-it-fun#196
