But it isn't - this is not far from where I live (about 30 mins drive by car). There is a café/restaurant on the castle - usually very busy on a Sunday afternoon, but I was lucky: it had rained heavily on that afternoon, when the weather cleared I went to the castle and had a coffee while enjoying this view (with only very few other people on the terrace). Very Happy

Uh, it's in the Black Forest region, which isn't too far, but the problem is the mountains which are in the way. Wink

Tbh I'd have to look up how to get to Baden Baden... (never been there; well, maybe when I was a kid)!

Ah, I drove through the Black Forest region this Easter. My wife and I celebrated our 10 years wedding anniversary and spent the Easter in Alsace. We flew in and out fro Stuttgart. So going to Stuttgart we drove direct from Strasbourg through the Black Forest.

My trip to Baden Baden is just quickly up and down. I won't have time to meet, unfortunately. Remind me, where in Germany are you? I am typically in Germany 2-3 times per year, so it should be possible to meet up Smile

Somewhere in/near Stuttgart should be possible. I am between Stuttgart and Munich.

If I'll ever go to Baden Baden, I will probably take the "scenic route" through the Black Forest instead of the motorway. Cool

I have never heard about that trek before, and also never hiked in that area. It looks beautiful, and I have driven through northern Sweden many times.

I was almost there! On my way back to Stuttgart from Baden-Baden I considered driving to Hohenzollern, but I didn't have the time so instead I visited the Old Castle above Baden-Baden. I wish I had more time, because Hohenzollern looks spectacular!

I actually stayed at a castle in Neuweier, Schloss Neuweier, but it is a less fortified castle. Still quit spectacular Smile

It's quite nice, very busy on weekends though. You'll have to pay for the parking lot etc. etc.

There are two castles in Baden-Baden. The old one was abandoned in the 14th century, I believe, and that was the one I visited. I was impressed by its size. Just awesome. But that is probably more to do with me being inexperienced with castles than anything else Smile

It was partly restored and really cool. I will post some pictures later Smile
