Heavy metal legend Guns N' Roses heads to Las Vegas with Appetite for Democracy, its first residency.
The series of 12 shows starts Oct. 31 and wraps up Nov. 24 at The Joint in the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. The concerts, on the heels of the 25th anniversary of Appetite for Destruction, will cull hits from that 1987 debut through 2008's Chinese Democracy. Tickets, starting at $45, go on sale Friday (details at thejointlasvegas.com).
Founded in 1985, the storied band consists of singer Axl Rose (the sole original member), bassist Tommy Stinson, drummer Frank Ferrer, keyboardists Dizzy Reed and Chris Pitman and guitarists DJ Ashba, Richard Fortus and Rob "Bumblefoot" Thal. Appetite, which spent three years on the Billboard album chart, has sold more than 18 million copies.
The Joint dates are Oct. 31, Nov. 2-3, Nov. 7, Nov. 9-10, Nov. 14, Nov. 17-18, Nov. 21, Nov. 23-24.

It's okay. As usually I would prefer it they focused 100 % on releasing new music. Then, to be positive, the plan can be to work on the record when the band is together for a month in Vegas. Who knows? Maybe Axl.

DJ, who lives in Vegas, has a home studio. So.... they could be working up some demos during that period, she said hopefully.

My guess is that the shows will be well attended except that a lot of the attendees will be tourists there out of curiosity and the novelty of seeing a bombastic show while in Vegas so the post-show reactions of some of the "concert-goers" will be a-typical. I hope the fan reviews will make up for that. In my experience rock concerts are way more fun for people who know who the band is and know a lot of their released recordings.
The video advert for the shows is pretty lame.

Re: GN'R to play 12 shows in Las Vegas
For the group's plugged-in Sin City run, Ashba claims, "It's gonna be a different experience for sure. The whole entire stage looks different." Their Appetite for Democracy residency will include new live production and set lists and is timed to this year's 25th anniversary of their landmark debut album, Appetite for Destruction.
"We're playing three shows a week and our main goal is to make every show unique and really change it up because we do realize there are going to be a lot of people flying from all over the world to see maybe one, two, three shows," says Ashba. "But there are the local people that we do take into consideration that may show up to every single show. That's kind of what's been cool about Guns: it's so spontaneous live, we've never followed a set list."
The Vegas residency may also prove the most fruitful period for creating new material, notes Ashba. "This is the first time we're all gonna be in the same place for a month solid and that will be, and already has been talked about, our main focus. So I think we're gonna get a lot of done," he says. "There's a lot of stuff recorded and I think it's just a matter of sitting down and working together as a band, putting together what we feel is gonna be the next best Guns N' Roses record. And I can't wait; I'm so excited to dive even deeper into that."

Blech.
I'd request "My Serpentine" , affectionately known as a Snake Bite where I am from.
Jack Daniels with lime juice. That's it.

I have never been a fan of American whiskey but I do remember it was a staple if we managed to sneak into bars where they sold liquor back in my younger days. And according to my friend, the Jack should be shot from a 4 cl glass. It was horrible.

I'm not a fan of American whiskey either but adulterating a good Scottish whiskey with anything other than a splash of water seems heretical. I do suggest you'd enjoy a good Snake Bite if it was your third of the night though.

You guys crack me up! I'm not much of a whiskey drinker anyway, American or Scottish. Just give me a pint of some good ol' dark brown ale and I'm set. A lot of these drinks are real foo-foo, mostly for the girls. If I'm looking to get piss drunk, just give me a shot glass and a bottle of tequila and I'm set. But for the occasion and to report back I'll try some of these and let you guys know what up! From what I saw this weekend, the band sounds ready and great, Just need to get Axl healthy. I guess he has strep throat, Fernando (manager) probably gave it to him. he was sick earlier in the week.

Axl did improve for the second night at Bridge School so he will probably be okay for the Vegas residency.

Th band has started rehearsing already, more than a week in advance of the first Vegas date. Perhaps that are shaking things up a bit this time, as Dj has alluded to. May I dare to even think about anything new?

Re: GN'R to play 12 shows in Las Vegas
Some information from Tommy regarding the residency:
Will you prepare for a 12-show residency any differently than you prepare for a tour?
Probably a little bit, because I think we’re going to have to alternate
sets and do different things. Whereas when we tour we kind of tweak the
set as we go and then kind of get in a mode of it being a certain way,
with a few audible changes as we go along. I think with the Vegas sets,
we’re going to try and make some different things happen to kind of keep
each show a little bit different.
Like, keep a basic set and mix in a few songs? Or will you have multiple setlists?
I think we’re really going to have to think about that. And as you just
say that … (pauses) … an idea came into my mind … to really,
drastically change the set. I can’t share it with you, but I think would
be really good. I think there’s a couple different ways we could go
about all this, and I think we should.
Is there you’ll be
able to do, production-wise, to make these shows special since you
won’t have to tear it all down every night? I’ve got a couple
of ideas, and I think everyone is going to have to use their noggin to
try to figure it out. I know Axl [Rose] is going to try and make every
show different from one to the next. I think that would be the way he
thinks.
Sounds like there’s still a lot up in the air. Do you think it will mostly happen spontaneously?
Ya know, I don’t know. I think that we’re probably going to have to
talk about how different we want to make the shows, then once we do that
and we all get on the same page it’ll be easy to say, “Hey, how ’bout
tonight we do it this way?” That way, people aren’t gonna go, “Wow, I
saw them last week, and I saw that set.” It would be good to have them
see a different set each time. To make people go, “Wow, that was totally
different.” It might be totally acoustic for half the set tonight. Or
maybe we’ll do half the set on f*cking kazoos! (laughs)
The
residency is called Appetite for Democracy. Does that mean it will
mostly draw from Appetite for Destruction and Chinese Democracy?
I just think somebody came up with a cute term (laughs). I don’t really
know where that came from, but it is definitely going to be more than
just Appetite and Chinese Democracy. It’s going to be a lot of things—as
much as we can throw out there.
