Re: The 'What are you listening to?' thread
I'm also listening to Alice in Chains.
I heard 'Man in the Box' while I was in a bar in Trondheim and figured: Oh Yeah, that's a pretty cool song! Without knowing much more from AiC. So I started listening to the Facelift album today. Not bad, more metal than I expected.

AIC was one of my favourite bands in the 90s. I didn't hear the most recent record until a few days ago. I didn't really thought it would be the same without Layne Stayley, but the new singer is great and even sounds a bit like Layne.

I saw them live with the new singer in 2005 at a festival. Even James Hetfield joined them on stage for a song. But I hardly knew them back then.
I think they have another new album coming out in a couple of weeks.

Excellent concert. Dave sang very well, Martin Gore also sang few songs. Great visual show, great crowd. I saw them for the first time in 2006, again in Sofia, now I even liked the show more.

Personal Jesus is a radio staple where I live. Several different radio formats include it and I've been hearing it regularly for quite some time and I don't listen to radio very often. I'm not sure about their other songs, I'm not very familiar with their body of work.denitza wrote:Soulmonster wrote:Was it good?

OK, just one more Jesus song before I go, I can't help it. This song is good medicine. I hadn't heard the solo version before tonight.

Depeche Mode are not as popular in the U.S. as in Europe, I think.
Also I like very much the version of Personal Jesus by Johnny Cash

I hadn't heard Cash's version of Personal Jesus before. I enjoyed it very much.
I am familiar with his cover of Soundgarden's song Rusty Cage. I think it is great and I am listening to it right now.

Yes, it remainds me for another great Cash's cover - Hurt(NIN)

Whilst I enjoy Cash's last few albums ("American Recordings"...), it's his own songs or covers of less well-known songs I prefer over e.g. "Personal Jesus" or U2's "One"...

I don't actually own any Johnny Cash albums but I am on a bit of a country music jag right now. I do really like the acoustic guitar part on his rendition of Personal Jesus that denitza posted the link to. Do you recommend any whole albums by JC that every well rounded album collection should have with that stripped down sound that I enjoy?

I think that his first "American Recordings" (1994) would be a good start!

Cool, glad you like it. It was his "comeback" album back then, which made him much more known in the younger generation, although I must admit it: I missed this at the time and discovered it much later only.
Btw, I read somewhere that they were recording band versions of those songs too, but then released the sparse acoustic versions, as they seemed to be better.
