Re: The 'What are you listening to?' thread
So does Quinton Tarentino - he used the song in one of his films. I just bought me some Willie DeVille - live recordings, electric and an acoustic show performed in Berlin with some friends, solo and with his early band Mink DeVille, both video and audio. I'm waiting for it to arrive in the mail and doing some online listening in the meantime. Alas, Willie has passed away. Cancer. He was such a Cat. As I listen to various eras of Willie's recording career I wonder if he ever met up with Phil Lynott or Izzy Stradlin and I hope so because I imagine they'd all dig each others music.

Re: The 'What are you listening to?' thread
Willy has roots in the NY punk scene. It's amazing the variety of bands that came from that scene. Blondie, Talking Heads, Suicide, Patti Smith, Ramones to name a few. Too bad most people hear "punk" and think they know what it means and that it refers to a style of music when it really doesn't..and then won't give it a chance. It's just "I hate punk music"

I heard quite some Willie DeVille when I was a kid. My dad has a lot of his records and I didn't mind to hear them. I was sad to hear of his death in 2009.

I had never heard of him before
But really liked the song above, if that is representative for his music then I need to get me some...

I have to say I am happy that Turbonegro has gone back to their Ass Cobra sound and style rather than the music from their last three albums which was just too poppy.

Ass Cobra is a great name. How about a link? I could maybe find one but a hand picked one by you is probably direct route to their coolest stuff.
On second thought, I need to back off buying so much music for a bit. I hope I don't like it

Re: The 'What are you listening to?' thread
Thank you! That was an excellent start to my work day . Bow Thayer reminded me a lot of Bright Eyes. Here's an example, although perhaps not the best example for comparison:

Some songs from 'Ass Cobra':
A lot dirtier, rawer and more filled with dark, twisted humour than their later more conventional punk rock.

And just to follow up with a few songs from Turbonegro's next album (after 'Ass Cobra'), 'Apocalypse Dudes'. Much better production, less raw punk, and fantastic Euroboy on guitar:

And now for something completely different.
I accidentally found this lovely Italian blogspot. Worth exploring sections if you like vintage and don't already know about this... there is another labor of love in there:

Love Turbonegro and you are right about the production and guitarwork on the Apocalyptic Dudes album. Improved song craft too.
And here is a little old school hardcore - offshoot of punk. These guys were fun to watch live, caught 8 or 9 shows.

A favorite song from my youth. I've got it on vinyl.

There is something almost surgical in how she hits all those high notes:

Duran Duran - Come Undone.
For some reason I believed Duran Duran was a German band as a kid.
