Hamilton steels itself for Guns N’ Roses onslaught
Canadian Press
TORONTO — Controversial rock band Guns N’ Roses is coming to Hamilton.
The group is scheduled to appear at Hamilton’s Copps Coliseum on March 11 with the Brian May Band.
Guns N’ Roses last played in Eastern Canada on Sept. 13 at Toronto’s Exhibition Stadium.
Concerts scheduled for Toronto and Vancouver were cancelled after a show at Montreal’s Olympic Stadium on Aug. 8 ended in a riot when singer Axl Rose cut short his performance due to a sore throat. Also on the bill was Metallica, whose singer James Hetfield was burned in an onstage explosion.
On Thursday, Guns N’ Roses was ordered to stay in Chile after traces of cocaine were found in the clothing of one of the band members. A performance by Guns N’ Roses earlier this week in Santiago left some 10 people injured.

Re: 1993.03.12 - Copps Coliseum, Hamilton, Canada
From a preview for the show in Saskatoon. Star Phoenix, March 25, 1993:
Copps Coliseum in Hamilton had the band in the building last Saturday and, according to coliseum representative Debra Vivian, the 18,000 fans were well behaved.
"Without question, we had more security because of the pre-publicity of Guns N’ Roses, but there were no problems,” Vivian said.
