Guns ’N’ Roses, who opened the show, are quite simply the best hard rock band around. These five Los Angelinos, lead by singer W. Axl Rose and menacing guitarist Slash, play in a vein quite different from the metal of Iron Maiden. The group obviously draws its inspiration from bands like Aerosmith and the Stooges, powering songs with chunky, heavy chords and melodic riffs. The band was stunningly energetic, ripping through Welcome to the Jungle from the debut album Appetite For Destruction. Their fast-becoming-legendary bad reputation won’t hurt them, but can Axl Rose possibly keep screeching with that much intensity long enough for the band to headline its own arena shows?
